Asset Finance Hiring Trends: What We’re Seeing in Live Briefs Right Now

The best indication of where hiring is heading in Asset Finance is not a survey or a market report. It is the briefs that are active right now, the roles organisations are trying to fill, the skills they cannot find, and the constraints they are navigating. As a firm with live searches running across lenders, software vendors, and system integrators in Asset, Auto, Equipment Finance and Leasing, this is what we are seeing in Q4 2026.

Implementation Talent Remains the Hardest to Fill

Platform modernisation is continuing at pace across UK lenders, and the demand for implementation consultants, business analysts, and solution architects with genuine Asset Finance domain knowledge has not softened. If anything, the gap between supply and demand has widened. The candidates who combine specific platform experience with the sector knowledge to configure those platforms effectively remain the scarcest profile in the market.

What we are seeing in live briefs: clients are widening their definitions of acceptable platform experience, accepting adjacent platform backgrounds where the domain knowledge is strong, and, in some cases, moving more quickly to offer than they historically would, because they have lost candidates to competing processes. Speed of decision is increasingly a differentiating factor in securing this profile.

Vendor-Side Hiring Is Outpacing Lender-Side

Across our current pipeline, vendor and system integrator briefs are representing a higher proportion of active searches than in previous years. Software vendors growing their UK and European client bases are looking for client-facing delivery professionals, implementation leads, customer success managers, and pre-sales consultants, who understand both the platform and the lender environment they are deploying into.

The challenge for vendors is that lenders represent a competing destination for the same talent. A senior implementation consultant who can choose between a vendor role managing multiple client engagements and a lender role embedded in a single programme will have different priorities, and the package, the career trajectory, and the stability of the vendor matter as much as the day-to-day role.

Senior Programme Delivery Is in Short Supply at the Right Level

We are seeing a consistent gap at the level just below programme director, senior programme managers and delivery leads with genuine transformation experience in Asset Finance who are ready to step into fuller programme leadership. This is a pipeline problem as much as a supply problem: the sector has not been generating enough of this profile from within, and the candidates who do exist at this level are in high demand and typically well-retained.

Briefs at this level are taking longer to fill than twelve months ago. The organisations that are succeeding are those that have begun searches with enough lead time to reach passive candidates properly, rather than initiating them when the programme has already started and the pressure is acute.

Risk and Compliance Demand Is Shifting in Composition

Risk and compliance hiring is still active, consistent with the broader financial services picture, but the composition of what is being sought is shifting. The FCA’s focus on AI governance in credit decisioning and the ongoing requirements around Consumer Duty are generating demand for professionals who combine compliance knowledge with an understanding of how AI-assisted workflows function. Generic compliance experience is less valuable than it was; Asset Finance-specific regulatory knowledge, combined with enough technical literacy to work alongside technology teams, is where demand is concentrated.

Salary Expectations Have Reset Upward

This is visible across almost every brief we are currently running. Candidates who would have accepted a certain package eighteen months ago are expecting materially more today, particularly in implementation, programme management, and senior compliance roles. The employer NICs increase from April 2025 has made the total cost of employment higher for clients, but it has not suppressed candidate expectations, which means the gap between what clients want to pay and what candidates expect to receive has widened in some role categories.

The organisations navigating this most effectively are those that have current market benchmarking built into their brief stage, rather than arriving at offer stage with a package that reflects last year’s data.

What This Means for Organisations Hiring Now

Four observations from our current pipeline that are directly actionable.

Start earlier than feels necessary. The searches that are completing on time are the ones that began before the pressure was acute. The ones that are running long are almost universally those that started when the programme need was already imminent.

Widen the brief before you widen the search. Adjusting the candidate profile by accepting adjacent platform experience, considering a strong lender-side candidate for a vendor role, often produces a faster result than extending the search timeline on a narrowly defined brief.

Protect interview availability. Candidate momentum is fragile. A process that stalls between rounds because panel availability was not protected loses candidates to organisations that move faster. This is particularly true at implementation consultant and senior programme manager level, where the candidate is almost certainly in more than one conversation.

Get the package right at brief stage. A search that completes only to fail at offer because the compensation was not benchmarked at the start is an avoidable outcome. Current market data is available, use it before the search begins, not after the preferred candidate declines.
